SPORT
Nathan has been an athlete and adventurer since his teenage years. At 17 he ran a sub-three-hour marathon, and at 18 broke the record for the mountain run section of New Zealand’s iconic Coast to Coast.
Mountain biking became his first elite-level sport. He represented New Zealand for six years and qualified for the 1996 Olympic Games, before shifting his focus to multisport and endurance racing.
In 1999, Nathan discovered adventure racing, the sport that would define much of his competitive career. Over the next 25 years he raced around the world, becoming one of the sport’s most successful athletes and winning seven Adventure Racing World Championship titles.
While competition has been a significant part of Nathan’s life, his passion has always extended beyond racing. He is an experienced and enthusiastic kayaker, skier, mountain biker and outdoor explorer, and continues to seek out challenging races, expeditions and adventures around the world.
For Nathan, sport has never just been about results. It has been a vehicle for adventure, learning, friendship, exploration and discovering what is possible.
